Great Lakes Hires Sports Scientist

Great Lakes Baseball Academy is excited to welcome Nate Wells as the organization's Sports Scientist. Wells will be responsible for the development of club strategies and adoption of best practice based off the organizations data and analytics. Nate will work alongside both the strength and conditioning and baseball coaching staff to utilize scientifically guided practices to improve the health and performance for Great Lakes athletes.

"Within my short time here at Great Lakes I have been astounded by Brian and the rest of the staff's ability to be progressive. The organization is always looking for ways to positively impact our athletes and quickly acts on new relevant information. The staff doesn't just talk about improving what we offer to athletes, they implement new concepts in a well thought out and timely manner. It's an organization that puts the needs of the athlete first. This excites me and I am looking forward to utilizing my skill set to add to the great range of expertise that is already present at Great Lakes Baseball Academy." Nate grew up in Duluth, MN where he began his coaching career after suffering a knee injury which sidelined him from continuing his athletic career. Nate got his start working as a high school strength and conditioning coach where he trained athletes in multiple sports. Nate then moved to the Twin Cities area to pursue his Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science. While attending the University of Minnesota, he worked as a Sports Science intern with men and women’s hockey, men’s swimming, and women’s soccer. Upon finishing his Master’s degree, Nate continued working through Minnesota’s Professional Internship program as an Assistant Performance Coach for men and women’s basketball, golf, and the Spirit Squads. Nate currently has a BS in Exercise Science, an M.Ed. in Sports and Exercise Science, CSCS, RPR L2, FMS L1, and HPBT.

“We’re excited to add Nate’s experience and expertise in data analytics,” said Club President Brian Bambenek. “His ability to connect all team members to implement best practice and use new research-based programming is a difference-maker in our industry.”
